Injury Dashboard

Waterloo’s Football team has the most athletes in the program compared to any other team, and due to the nature of the sport, many of them sustain injuries throughout the season. Creating a proper injury management system was essential so that ATs, coaches and trainers know who is injured and what their limitations are. This information is displayed in a shiny dashboard. While this project started out with google form inputs and a google sheets database, we are now creating a system that allows ATs to view and update injuries in the same place. Overall this program increases communication throughout the staff, makes the ATs lives easier and provides a platform for analysis to reduce future injuries. This program has been adapted for the men’s and women’s Basketball, Volleyball and Hockey teams.

Exercise Evaluations Dashboard

Every season, the strength and conditioning coaches evaluate all athletes on basic exercises. They want a single place to store this evaluation data and a dashboard to see how individual athletes perform over time. There is a benchmark system that allows coaches to set goals for the players and to track how well a team as a whole is doing. The data is stored in csv files and is presented in a Shiny dashboard. It started with just Women’s Hockey data, but soon should expand to all sports.

Reflections

Overall, I really enjoyed my first year being in this environment. Being around a group this smart and talented has been incredible. I have learned so much and am excited to continue learning. Next year I am excited to meet with more coaches and dive deeper into football analysis.
